Born in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1965, artist Tom Friedman studied as a graphic designer in Washington University and as a sculptor in University of Illinois at Chicago. He is best known for using everyday materials such as clothing, money, tooth picks and sugar cubes in ornate arrangements for installations and photography.

His work has been exhibited in the US, London, Rome, Italy, UK, Geneva and more. Friedman was represented by Gagosian Gallery in New York, New York, in Miami’s 2007 Art Basel.  

Ives Rossy (pictured above) is the first man to ever fly freely using jet-fueled powered wings attached to his back. The display took place in western Switzerland as Rossy, the self-proclaimed “Rocket Man” was dropped from a plane wearing his unique invention. After free falling for just seconds, he quickly fired the engines and flew 8,200ft for a little over five minutes. The flight ended with Rossy pulling a parachute and landing safely. Rossy was very pleased with the test flight which has been four years in the making. The former fighter pilot described the wings like a “second skin” which were fairly easy to control.
