Located along the Miami River in Downtown Miami, Big Fish Lounge doesn’t look like much from the outside. In fact, if you didn’t know better, you would think it was just a tikki hut hidden behind a tall metal fence and rows of palm trees. However, once inside you realize Big Fish sits on a massive property with several outdoor bars that are sprawled along the scenic Miami River and the décor inside is just as diverse and distinctive as its city surroundings. The bars inside range from having wood floors and high-end lighting, to organically wrapping around the largest tree on the property; The seating goes from plush white couches to wooden bar stools.
The only aspect that may top Big Fish’s scenery and atmosphere may be its unique events. That’s where Chris Imperial steps in. Chris hosts all types of art and culture events throughout South Florida and Who Got Next? at Big Fish gave local hip hop artists the opportunity to perform and possibly catch the eye of representatives from Universal, Philthy Rich Records, BMG, EMI and more. And despite Big Fish’s secluded location, Chris Imperial still served up a packed house full of artists and hip-hop fans alike.

The crew from Hands Down Entertainment gets ready to take the stage at Who Got Next? at Big Fish
You can catch Chris Imperial doing his thing for the spoken word community as he hosts open mic nights at DADA Restaurant in Delray Beach every 1st, 2nd and 3rd Tuesday of the month. Like all of Chris’s events, they always deliver what they promise and are constantly entertaining. You can get email alerts on all of Chris Imperial’s events by joining his email list at

The Jam @ MAM The motivation to attract newer crowds to art venues in Miami has reached an all time high. It seems that every museum in South Florida is strategically coordinated to hold social events on offsetting nights. The Lowe Art Museum has the monthly LoweDown; The Museum of Contemporary Art has the Jazz at MOCA; and The Miami Art Museum has The Jam at MAM. In a bid to out do each other, this month’s past Jam at MAM transformed there visitor’s information desk into a 360-degree open bar sponsored by Bacardi rum. On top of a slammin D.J., open bar and light, trendy fare, the late afternoon event ended with a full-length fashion show featuring the hottest trends taking over South Florida. Oh Yeah, did I mention there was art there too? But sorry, no food or drinks in the museum. All festivities take place in the courtyard and in the MAM’s lobby. |
