Hip Hop has always been a male dominated industry and even now, with its world-wide appeal, only a hand-full of female artists manage to break through the "glass ceiling" of the often misogynistic world of Hip Hop and Rap. That's where Nique steps in; Hoping to fill the voids left behind by the few successful female Hip Hop artists like Lisa "Left Eye" Lopez, Eve, Lil Kim, Foxy Brown and others that, in one way or another, seem to become victims of their own fame when it comes to their musical careers. However, Nique's inimitable style, as well as her general attitude toward the Hip Hop game, is a far cry from most "femcees".
A few months back, VH1 debuted a new reality show called "Miss Rap Supreme", a series that promised to fill the previously mentioned void by discovering the next female Hip Hop phenomenon. The show, which only lasted one season, gathered a group of female rappers that were mediocre at best and certainly didn't produce any worth while talent. It's no coincidence that Nique's new mix tape album is titled "Miss Rap Supreme". This second edition to the "Beauty and The Beats" series is a flagrant jab at the commercial world's weak attempts to produce Hip Hop talent the way they produce reality show stars.
Nique's first mix-tape album, "Beauty and The Beats, Volume 1", is streaming live and available for free download on www.BeatJelly.com . The Album is quintessential "Nique", with the perfect mix of grittiness and sensuality in both beats and lyrics. You can currently hear Nique's newest single, "Who Got It?" on her MySpace page: www.MySpace.com/OfficialNiqueStar. Keep checking www.BeatJelly.com

Every Friday at 6pm on the outdoor patio at Tobacco Road amongst the laughter, drinks and FREE chicken wings, he sets up a chair, a microphone, plugs in his guitar and clips one of his 15 harmonicas around his neck. As he picks out the first few bars and starts to sing, something begins to happen, discussions of work place gossip, turns into head swaying and foot patting. Poppa E. has arrived on the scene and gives the crowd something most of them have never witnessed live... down home blues.
This quiet, unassuming man simply known as Poppa E. has been bringing us all back to our soulful roots. Responding to a MySpace email blast from DJ Oski looking for an original copy of the "Tobacco Road" theme song for their upcoming 96th birthday celebration, Poppa E. quickly seized the opportunity and responded. "I didn't really have the track," said Poppa E. "But I knew the song, so I ran into my studio laid down the track complete with vocals, and added a Happy Birthday twist." It worked beautifully, after meeting with the owners of Tobacco Road, they quickly signed him to a long term performance contract.
A native New Yorker, Poppa E started out playing Jazz with the likes of legends like Ornette Coleman. His long winding career has taken him around the world and back again to his roots, the blues. With the release of his new CD "Crossroads," Poppa E is gearing up for another tour through Europe and the South Pacific. In late August, Poppa E will be appearing live on Ed Bell's NPR radio show.
