Eagle Ray kills woman in Florida Keys

A boater was killed in the city of Marathon in Key West earlier today as an eagle ray jumped into her boat and stabbed her with its barb. Reports say that the barb impaled the woman through her neck. Eagle rays can grow to be up to 8 feet across and are very common in warm tropical waters.

The rays are known to jump out of the water as they usually swim very close to the surface. However, it is very rare that a ray would collide with a boat.

Reverend Run, best known as being one of the three parts of Run DMC came on the Howard Stern Show today promoting a tour with Kid Rock. He spoke about everything including the death of Jam Master Jay, his show on MTV and the days he spent drinking 40s. Vicki Van Meter dead at 26

Best known for flying a plane across the country when she was only 11-years-old, pilot Vicki Van Meter has died at age 26. Vicki Van Meter was found dead in her home in Pennsylvania by, what coroners say was a self-inflicted gun shot. Brother Daniel Van Meter was quoted as saying “She was unhappy, but it was hard for her to open up about that and we all thought that she was coping. This really is a shock, because we didn’t see the signs.”

Van Meter earned a degree in criminal justice and was planning to go back to school to study psychology. “We will miss her dearly,” said her mother. “But we are very, very aware that she is doing important work somewhere else right now.”

J.K. Rowling: “I always saw Dumbledore as gay.”

I imagine it would be a difficult to live a life where your environment, actions, words and even your sexuality is controlled by an omnipotent force; in this case J.K. Rowling. The Best-Selling author reveled that Dumbledore, the headmaster character in “Harry Potter”, is gay. Rowling reveled that the character was gay in some detail to an auditorium full of children at New York City’s Carnegie Hall stating, “I always saw Dumbledore as gay.” She went on to say, “Dumbledore fell in love with Grindelwald…. Don’t forget, falling in love can blind us. [He] was very drawn to this brilliant person. This was Dumbledore’s tragedy.”

The specially selected audience of children were sweepstakes winners from all over the country that were flown into New York City just for the event. The Carnegie Hall event marked the last reading of her book tour.

Fantasy Fest 2007

Goombay, Dungeons & Dragons, Parties in Plaid and Voodoo Luaus are only recognizable terms to those select South Floridians that hunt out the biggest blowout parties each year. The 2007 Fantasy Fest in Key West is one of those rare decadent festivals that appeals to all walks of life.

The festival runs from Friday, October 19, 2007 until Sunday, October 28. The festival is full of as many family activities as adult activities so one must be wary of where one wanders. Among the many hosting venues are Sloppy Joe’s (for their 24^th annual toga party), The Westin Resort & Marina (for an annual pet masquerade parade), Hog’s Breath Saloon (for the 20^th Annual Fantasy Fest Beach Party), Crowne Plaza La Concha Hotel (for a celebrity look-a-like contest), and many, many more.
